E.M.S.

The Leander Fire Department responds to medical emergencies within their territory as well as fires. All of the career firefighters are certified at a minimum at the the EMT-Basic level with the Texas Department of State Health Services. Currently, there are also several EMT-Intermediates, and EMT-Paramedics included in both the career and volunteer staff as well.
Leander fire apparatus carry Automated External Defibrillators which can initiate a shock to a patient in cardiac arrest. Early defibrillation and CPR have proven to be the best chance for survival a cardiac arrest victim has, and Leander enjoys a higher than average save rate.
Transport EMS is provided by Williamson County EMS. Medic 23, one of 15 units in the county, is housed in a stand alone building behind Central Fire Station.
Having an extra pair of hands is always helpful when on the scene of a medical emergency, and a fire crew not only provides those extra hands, but many times arrives several minutes before the ambulance. Leander Firefighters and Williamson County EMS work together to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient. EMS crews and firefighters become as close as family and spend much of their time together on and off duty.
